Silk Hill Stables is a lovely romantic hideaway in the Peak District and is 4 star graded,it offers fabulous accomodation in a scenic part of Derbyshire.
We are conveniently situated within easy walking distance of several local pubs who serve food and welcome dogs and the historic Buxworth Canal Basin is only a few minutes walk away.The village is only a few minutes walk and provides you with plenty shops,cash machines,post office,chip shop,Indian and Italin restaurants,doctors ,dentist,plenty tea rooms/cafes,the village probably has every amenity you would need and the train staion and bus stop are both in the village and between the two you can get to anywhere you want to visit.Turn left going out the gate takes you to the famous Buxworth Basin and also the Navigation Inn which was once owned by Pat Phoenix [Elsie Tanner in Coronation Street] turn right out the gate takes you to the village and both are only a few minutes walk away.There are several take aways in the village that deliver to the cottage.
Bakewell Town is not a far drive and has a lovely market on a Monday but you need to be very early or you will find it hard to get a parking space.
Enjoy plenty scenic walks from the gate of you holiday cottage.There are literally hundreds of scenic walks that can be done from the cottage and can be as easy or as challenging as you wish,a lot of guests walk up Kinder Scout [not for the feint hearted though] which can be seen from the front of the cottage.The cottage has been described by many of our guests as the most dog friendly place they have visited,it must be true as we have plenty of repeat guests who come year after year and never get fed up as there is so much to see and do.
We are only a 40 minute drive from Manchester airport.
THE KINDER PLATEAU
The Kinder Plateau is surrounded by rocky crags and to the west is Kinder River which flows in to the spectacular waterfall called The Kinder Downfall.To the east of Kinder is further high land heading toward Hope Cross which links kinder to Winn Hill and the Hope Valley.
Within the Hope Valley area is Castleton which offers stunning views of Mam Tor and the famous Winnats Pass with many caves in the area containg the rare semi precious Blue John Stone which is unique to Derbyshire,if you are heading to Castleton there is a boat which will take you on an underground voyage and it is amazing.
Famous Buxton Spa Town.
Buxton offers something for everyone fro the Pavillion Gardens,the famous Buxton Opera House which always has something amazing on,there is the Dome,the country park,to the shops in Spring Gardens to the market place,in Buxton you will find somewhere to eat,drink,swim,ride a miniature railway or visit the famous Pooles Cavern.
The cottage is perfectly situated in the middle of the Peak Districct where you are never far from a stunning attraction or wonderful walking.Close to Buxton is the famous Chatsworth House,Haddon Hall,Castleton Caverns,Lyme Park,Chric Tramway Museum,the Roaches or the well known Tissington Trail and even Alton Towers is a fairly short drive away.
The cottage is situated on cycle route 68 and there are plenty tracks to test even the most ardent cyclist but there are plenty nice flat paths along the canal if you just want to have a nice easy ride taking in the views as you go along the canal.
