About The Area

Silk Hill Stables is a beautiful romantic hideaway in the Peak District and is 4 star graded.It offers fabulous accomodation in a truely stunning part of Derbyshire.

We are conveniently situated within walking distance of several local pubs who serve good food and welcome dogs. The historic Buxworth Canal Basin is  about 5 minutes walk away which is also home to The Navigation Inn pub which is very dog friendly.The village of Whaley Bridge is about 15 minutes walk away in the other direction and provides you with every amenity you might need during your stay including a co op supermarket and cash machine,cafes, pubs,micro brewery,restaurants,chip shop, chemist, post office, pet shop and a raw dog food shop which is proving popular with many of our guests. Our closest supermarkets are Tesco (5 minute drive) and Morrisons (10 minute drive). Guests are welcome to arrange their own home delivery to the cottage,Waitross also deliver here. The village also has excelent public transport links ie buses and trains.There are also several take aways in the village that will deliver to the cottage.We are also lucky to have several public footpaths crossing the fields right opposite the cottage.

Lyme Park home of Pride and Prejudice and great walking.

Castleton for gorgeous cream teas and quaint gift shops

The Monsal and Tissington Trails for easy flat walking.

Kinder Scout for challenging walking and stunning views.

Dove Dale, Hartington, Eyam, just 3 of the beautiful nearby villages with great pubs and stunning scenery.

The Peak Forest canal network can be accesed just a short walk away from the cottage and provides miles of flat walking.

The Goyt valley is also a walkers paradise.

Buxton Town and a whole host of other wonderful places to visit and things to see.

The Kinder Plateau is surrounded by rocky crags and to the west is Kinder River which flows in to the spectacular waterfall called The Kinder Downfall.To the east of Kinder is further high land heading toward Hope Cross which links kinder to Winn Hill and the Hope Valley.

Within the Hope Valley area is Castleton which offers stunning views of Mam Tor and the famous Winnats Pass with many caves in the area containg the rare semi precious Blue John Stone which is unique to Derbyshire,if you are heading to Castleton there is a boat which will take you on an underground voyage and it is amazing.

Famous Buxton Spa Town.

Buxton offers something for everyone from the Pavillion Gardens,the famous Buxton Opera House which always has something amazing on,there is the Dome,the country park,to the shops in Spring Gardens to the market place,in Buxton you will find somewhere to eat,drink,swim,ride a miniature railway or visit the famous Pooles Cavern.

The cottage is perfectly situated in the middle of the Peak Districct where you are never far from a stunning attraction or wonderful walking.Close to Buxton is the famous Chatsworth House,Haddon Hall,Castleton Caverns,Lyme Park,Chric Tramway Museum,the Roaches or the well known Tissington Trail and even Alton Towers is a fairly short drive away.

The cottage is situated on cycle route 68 and is both a walkers and mountain bikers paradise to test even the most ardent cyclist or walker but there are also plenty of nice flat paths along the canal, the old tramway,and trails if you just want to have a nice easy ride taking in the views as you go along. There is also a wheelchair friendly flat walk at the Goyt Valley where wonderful views can be had.
